Bolek, the specialist boat used to cut underwater plants at Pilsen’s Great Bolevec Pond, partially sank overnight on 15–16 October while moored at its usual place near the shore. It was recovered by crane on the morning of 16 October.
The city attributes the incident to a technical fault. A small amount of hydraulic oil leaked into the water and was removed by firefighters; floating containment booms were also deployed.
City and municipal estate-management representatives say the water is not endangered and there are no serious environmental consequences. This is the assessment reported in the official notice, rather than an independent water-quality test or confirmation that the water is suitable for swimming.
Mowing, which had been expected to continue for about another month, has ended early. The boat will be inspected and repaired, with the aim of returning it to work early next spring. The cover is a conceptual AI illustration of a lake, not a photograph of the incident.
