What you need to know

UWB announced the 2026 laureates on 13 October. The international illustration and animation symposium follows on 20–22 October.

The University of West Bohemia announced the 2026 Jiří Trnka Award laureates on 13 October: illustrators Beatrice Alemagna and Juan Palomino, and Munich’s Internationale Jugendbibliothek, an international library specialising in children’s and young adult literature.

The awards are associated with the Jiří Trnka International Symposium at the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty in Pilsen on 20–22 October. Guests will also include Ukraine’s Studio Agrafka and Hungarian animator Luca Tóth. This year’s theme connects vitality, empathy and nature.

This is an announcement ahead of the event, not a report of a completed award ceremony. Andrea Čandová’s university report links the programme and registration form; admission is free. Check the requirements for the part you wish to attend. The cover is an original conceptual AI illustration, not a photograph of the laureates or the actual award.
