Plzeň is preparing a public-lighting modernization project. A city article dated 21 October describes replacing more than 23,000 luminaires and 15,000 poles through a public–private partnership, or PPP.
The city estimates that implementation itself will take four years and reduce current public-lighting electricity consumption by at least 40%. These are project forecasts; the article does not set a start date for the works.
Lighting specialist Hynek Medřický, who is helping prepare requirements, proposes considering glare, light entering homes and natural habitats, dimming and future technological upgrades. He says a shortlist of solutions could emerge by year end if the selection process proceeds as expected.
