The Czech Ministry of Transport said on 5 October 2026 that another 202,617 driving licences in the Czech register are due to expire before the end of the year. If you hold a Czech-issued licence, check its expiry date. This is not an announcement that foreign licences must be exchanged.
Under the ministry’s current procedure, you can apply through the Transport Portal when no more than 90 days remain, or apply in person at any municipality with extended powers (ORP). Standard processing takes up to 20 calendar days and is free. Collection at the chosen office is free; delivery to a parcel locker or pickup point costs CZK 100 with an online application. Issuance requires usual residence in Czechia under the ministry’s conditions; ask an ORP office if the online option is unavailable in your case.
A proposal to increase the standard validity of newly issued licences in certain categories from 10 to 15 years is still under interministerial review. It is not in force and would not automatically extend existing licences. The cover is a conceptual AI illustration, not an image of a real document or portal.
