On 1 October 2026, the Czech Transport Ministry reminded drivers of a rule already in effect since 1 January 2026. For ordinary holders of a Czech driving entitlement, the first mandatory medical check based on age is at 70, rather than the former 65. Checks then recur at least every two years. The ministry’s October statement is a reminder, not the date a new law took effect.
Drivers aged 65–69 no longer need routine medical checks solely because of age. A doctor may set a shorter interval based on a person’s health, while some professional drivers have separate requirements. Check the date in your own medical assessment and ask your doctor if it is unclear. The ministry’s practical guide and section 87 of the Road Traffic Act set out the rule and exceptions. Holders of foreign driving licences should separately check the rules for recognition or exchange of their document; this article does not establish those rights.
